You can create your own gradients, add them to the swatches panel, and then apply them to your text. Here you will be presented with a panel consisting of all your swatches. With the text selected, click the burger menu icon from the top right of the Appearance panel, then choose Add New Fill or click the Add New Fill button at the bottom of the Appearance panel instead.Ĭlick the Fill dropdown menu. Open the Appearance panel by selecting Window > Appearance. Step 2 - Add a New Fill to the Text in the Appearance Panel Note: hold down Shift to keep the text in proportion while you resize. Now, reposition and resize your text on your artboard by selecting the Selection tool (V), then clicking and dragging from the corner nodes. Note: if you don’t see the Character panel, go to Window > Type > Character. I am using a vintage serif typeface called Nighty. Double-click your text to highlight it, and select your font from the dropdown menu in the Character panel or the top toolbar. Click anywhere on your artboard and type your text. This can be a really effective way to lift your designs and give them a new dimension! In this tutorial, you will learn how to fill text with a gradient in Adobe Illustrator.
